Providence doesn’t feel like a gift,
Sometimes it feels like Charity,
And I don’t like being a charity case.
I don’t like hand me downs.
Providence feels like people are looking down on me,
Providence feels like I need to earn my keep.
But if it has taught me anything,
It is to be humble,
To accept that I can not do life on my own.
I will need help.
And I shouldn’t be proud –
Either to ask for it or to take it when freely offered.
My idea of Providence looks more like ‘self-sufficiency’,
But God’s idea of Providence looks like ‘Total-dependency’ on him,
Now the question is –
Do I trust God enough to depend on him completely?
Will I accept that his way is always the right way?
And when things don’t turn out the way I want,
Will I humble myself and accept that Father knows best?
Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.” So he went and did according to the word of the Lord , for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook. And it happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.
